ISRAEL TRIP ITINERARY
EXTRA DAY BECAUSE OF FLIGHT CANCELLATION - JAN 18, MON: DEPART USA
DAY 01 – JAN 19, TUE:
Tour members meet in Chicago for our British Airlines flight to London. Flight leaves at 9:45 p.m. After a brief touchdown and change of planes, we depart London—Heathrow for a very quick stop in Istanbul, Turkey. We are scheduled to arrive at 2:00 a.m. Jan 19 we will do some sightseeing, but also catch up on some sleep.
DAY 02 – JAN 20, WED: ARRIVE TEL AVIV
We arrive in Tel Aviv where we are met by our agent who assists us through customs and security. We are then transferred to our motorcoach for our drive to the Gali-lee. Welcome dinner and overnight in Galilee, Tiberias area.
DAY 03 – JAN 21, THU: GALILEE, MT. OF BEATITUDES, CAPERNAUM, BOAT RIDE ON SEA OF GALILEE, JORDAN RIVER
There is nothing quite like watching a sunrise in the Gali-lee from our hotel. We begin our sightseeing with our first stop at the Mt. of Beatitudes (Matt. 5-7), with time for reflection and worship. From here we make our way to Capernaum, We then board our replica wooden Jesus Boat for our Boat Ride on the Sea of Galilee, we then stop for a special traditional St. Peter’s Fish lunch (not in-cluded).
Afterward we see Gadera and then make our way to the River Jordan. We will have dinner and overnight in Gali-lee, Tiberias area.
DAY 04 – JAN 22, FRI: GOLAN HEIGHTS, CAESAREA PHILIPPI, TEL DAN, BEIT SHEAN
After breakfast we travel north for the Golan Heights and view the area from a special lookout. From here we continue our drive to Caesarea Philippi, where we will have time for devotion; afterwards we have a short hike/ walk to Tel Dan where we will see the gate of Jeroboam. From here we will visit to Tel Beit Shean, one of the best preserved Decapolis Roman cities and Gideon Springs. We will have dinner and overnight in Galilee, Tiberias area.
DAY 05 – JAN 23, SAT: CANA, NAZARETH, MT. CAR-MEL, DRUZE VILLAGE, MEGIDDO, CAESAREA, JERUSALEM
Today we depart the Galilee for Jerusalem, visiting the following biblical sites: Cana (John 2), Zippori, Nazareth (Luke 1 & 2), Mt. Carmel with time for devotions (1 Kgs. 18), time permitting we’ll stop at the Druze Village for our lunch break, afterwards continue to Tel Megiddo, and then onto Caesarea Maritima (Acts 9 & 25), we end our day with our drive to Jerusalem in time for dinner and overnight.
DAY 06 – JAN 24, SUN: SOUTHERNS STEPS, MT. OF OLIVES, PALM SUNDAY ROAD, GARDEN OF GETH-SEMANE, MT. ZION GATE, JEWISH QUARTERS, TEM-PLE MOUNT, BETHLEHEM
We begin our explorations with a drive to the beautiful Mt. of Olives to behold the breath-taking panorama of the Holy City. Our pilgrimage will proceed down the Old Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive grove, and there visit the Church of Ag-ony, where tradition holds that Jesus prayed. We will enter Jerusalem through the Zion Gate, and walk to the holiest site in the whole Jewish world, the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) of Herod's temple. Beyond the wall lies the 35 acre temple area purchased by King David (2 Sam. 24:18-25). On this site now stands the magnificent Dome of the Rock (the third holiest shrine in all Islam) and the El-Aksa Mosque. From the temple area, we make our way to St. Stephen's Gate, St. Anne's Cru-sader Church, Pools of Bethesda, the Sister of Zion Con-vent (to see the Pavement where Jesus stood as he was being tried by Pilate), Ecco Homo Arch, and the ancient Cardo. We walk to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Afterwards we conclude our sightseeing with a short drive and visit to Bethlehem, we will pass by Rachel's tomb on the outskirts of Bethlehem, and visit the Church of the Na-tivity and Shepherd's Field. We will have dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. After dinner we make our way back to the Western Wall for a visit to the Rabbi’s Tun-nel.
DAY 07 – JAN 25, MON: SHRINE OF THE BOOK, MODEL CITY, HEZEKIAH’S TUNNEL, ST. PETER GALLI-CANTU, GARDEN TOMB
After breakfast we begin our sightseeing with a visit to the Shrine of the Book Museum, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are displayed, then you will be fascinated by your visit to a model of Jerusalem (1 to 50 scale model of Herodian Jerusalem as it would have appeared in Jesus' time), afterwards we drive to Hezekiah’s Tunnel for a visit (please be sure to bring good water shoes with you, as you will get wet walking through the tunnel, also be sure to bring a flashlight with you if at possible). From here we make our way to the Church of Agony at St. Peter Gallicantu. Afterwards we make our way onto the Garden Tomb for time of worship and communion. We conclude our day with a farewell dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
DAY 08 – JAN 26, TUE: DEPART TEL AVIV FOR U.S.A.
Depart Jerusalem and continue to Eilat and onto Egypt. The Gulf of Eilat, which is part of the Red Sea, is the northern most, and hence the coldest tropical sea in the world, and is considered one of the most beautiful Seas. Its water supports an unequaled variety of aquatic life forms, fauna, coral and fish, in a myriad of shapes and sizes. Depart Eilat, and continue to Taba border for our drive across the Sinai for Cairo. We arrive in Cairo in the evening in time for dinner and overnight.
DAY 09 – JAN 27, WED: CAIRO, EGYPTIAN MUSEUM, PYRAMIDS & THE SPHINX
Your sightseeing tour will begin with a visit to the world famous Egyptian Museum. There will be sufficient time for a brief visit to the museum containing the treasures of King Tutankhamen. Next you will visit the Pyramids of Giza, you will visit the Great Pyramids and see the Sphinx. Our sightseeing excursion will include the Cita-del, Mohammed Ali-Mosque, called the Alabaster Mosque, offering a beautiful view of Cairo and the Nile River, the historical dwellings and mosques. Dinner and overnight in Cairo.
DAY 10 – JAN 28, THU: CAIRO, MEMPHIS & SAK-KARA
Today’s sightseeing tour will include the Alabaster Sphinx, and the statue of Ramses II. We then proceed to the Necropolis of Sakkara containing the funerary monuments from various periods of Egyptian history. View the Step Pyramid of King Zoser. See several mastabas (tombs of nobles). Included are the tombs of Ti and Ptah where are among the finest excavated. Dinner and overnight in Cairo.
DAY 11 – JAN 29, FRI: CAIRO, USA
Morning transfer to the airport for our flight homeward. The close of an unforgettable tour, we bring with us lasting memories of the Old and New Testament, a renewal of our faith, and a greater understanding of the life and ministry of our Lord. We walked in the same dust and dirt and paths that Abraham, Moses, Peter and especially the Lord Jesus walked in.
