Psalm for the 3rd Sunday after Pentecost

Psalm 119, selected verses
M:​ Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
C:​ Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
M:​ I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.
C:​ I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.
M: ​I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.
C:​ I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.
M: How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

C:​ I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

Here are some thoughts that didn’t make it into Sunday’s sermon. The Old Testament lesson for the 2nd Sunday after Epiphany is the account of Moses turning the water of the Nile River into blood. The first of the ten plagues God used to get the Israelites out of Egypt. Exodus 7:14-24 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the water. John 14:1-4 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  2  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  4  You know the way to the place where I am going.” “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Did you catch the difference between what I read just now and what I read in the Gospel lesson? The Gospel lesson was from the NIV. The second verse I read was from the King James Version. If you’re older than 50, that’s the version of the Bible that you heard in church and learned in catechism class.
