Living the Christian Life of Love

John 14:15-21 “If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” One Saturday morning, six-year-old Devin decided to fix his parents pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter, opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour canister, spilling it on the floor. He scooped some of flour int...

Excellence in Christ

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. For as long as Bobby could remember, his mother had dressed him in red socks. There was never an exception to the rule. Anytime Bobby left the house he was wearing red socks. Of course, such a thing made him the target of jokes and wisecracks by his friends. Finally, Bobby asked his mother, “Why the red socks? Why am I the only one who has to wear red socks?” His mother replied, “It’s for your own safety. If you get lost or wander away, we’ll be able to find you easily. I’ll just tell people, “Look for the handsome little boy in the red socks.” I have given each of the 8 th graders a pair of green socks. Your classmates have the same socks so they can encourage you to stand up and stand out for your faith. If you become lost in the ways of the world, your classmate can just tell people, “Look for the good looking teen with one green sock.” I also...

The Way to Life is Truth

Image
John 14:1-12 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." 9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'S...

The Death of May 21st

Worldview Everlasting feels fine taking on Harold Camping's silly prophecies through the Anti-Apostate Apostate Family Christian Radio. Tune in, especially after May 21, if you're really scared now that what you thought was a sure thing didn't exactly pan out so well.

Lutheran Satire: Messing with Dispensationalists

Image
It has been all over the news that (false) preacher Harold Camping is claiming that the world will end at 6:00 pm on May 21. There are plenty of other false claims about the End Times. Some are Pre-Millennialists claiming a 1,000 years of peace and tranquility during Christ's reign on earth after the destruction of the Antichrist and Satan. Some are Post-Millennialists claiming that after a 1,000 year period of peace and tranquility, Christ will return. Lutherans are Amillennialists, meaning that there will be no millennium of perfect peace on earth, before or after Christ's second coming. This is the biblical point of view. Enjoy the video on messing with Dispensationalists - Dispensationalists are those who believe in a millennium of peace and tranquility and a rapture of believers. PS. If the world ends on Saturday, May 21, then you’ll be in God’s House in heaven on Sunday. Saints and angels will be leading our worship for an eternity. If the world doesn’t end, then y...

The Shepherd Leads His Sheep

Image
John 10:1-10 "I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. 3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice." 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them. 7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The t...

Seeing Clearly

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. Luke 24:30-31 (NIV) None of you are wearing eyeglasses. That's good. That means you have good eyes. I have to wear glasses. Why does someone wear glasses? There was once a little boy named Emmet who couldn't see very well. The funny thing about it was that he didn't know it. In fact, no one knew it -- not his mother or father, his grandmother or grandfather, not even his closest friends knew that Emmet couldn't see very well. Emmet thought that everything in the world had fuzzy edges because that is the way things looked to him. He thought that all of the other children saw things just as he saw them. As he got older his mother began to wonder why Emmet always sat so close to the TV. His grandfather noticed that when he looked at a book, he held it very close to his face. Whe...

Praise be to the Lord

People around the world are celebrating the news recently in from Pakistan. We join them. But our joy is tempered. We remember the carnage that came as the result of horrific plans. We remember the flag-draped caskets that came sadly home. The price we have already paid to combat terrorism is steep. We know the last payment to that account is yet to be made. Today we celebrate being Americans. There is a special satisfaction in knowing that the voice that so loudly chanted, "Death to America!" has been silenced by Americans. It seems only right. We salute our troops. But we know that the final credit must go to the LORD our God. Without his help, all of our efforts would be in vain. If we do not know this, if we do not acknowledge this, then shame on us! Deep down we know that we do not deserve to be blessed by the Almighty—not we who misuse his name and trample on his commandments. The song about America has it right: "God shed his grace on thee." It is all...

The Road of Hope

Image
Luke 24:13-35 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem . 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him. 17 He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk along?" They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?" 19 "What things?" he asked. "About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel . And what is...
