Jesus walks into everyday lives

Jesus walked into their everyday lives. Today we like to keep the sacred and secular separate. Jesus walked into the workplace of Simon and the Sons of Thunder Fishing Company. He showed His power with a miraculous catch of fish. Peter recognized his sinfulness and begged for forgiveness.

At that moment Peter realized something – just how sinful he really was. Peter was a sinful man at home, sinful at work and sinful during his time off. And then Jesus walked in.

We, like Peter, need Jesus' amazing, forgiving power in every moment in our lives. We cannot keep Him hidden away while we are at work. We must let our Light shine. We cannot leave Jesus outside when we enter our homes. We must season our speech with Salt. Nor do we only allow Jesus to affect a change in our hearts and lives during the few hours we are in church. We must welcome Him to come into every aspect of our lives.

Jesus wants to walk in. In while we are fishing, hunting or golfing. In when we are on the road, in the classroom or on the assembly line.

Let Jesus walk in so we may walk with Him.

Let us ever walk with Jesus, Follow his example pure,
Flee the world which would deceive us And to sin our souls allure.
Ever in his footsteps treading, Body here, yet soul above,
Full of faith and hope and love, Let us do the Father's bidding.
Faithful Lord, abide with me. Savior, lead; I follow thee.

Water into blood and water into wine

Here are some thoughts that didn’t make it into Sunday’s sermon. The Old Testament lesson for the 2nd Sunday after Epiphany is the account of Moses turning the water of the Nile River into blood. The first of the ten plagues God used to get the Israelites out of Egypt. Exodus 7:14-24 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the water. Wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake. 16 Then say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the desert. The second verse I read was from the King James Version. If you’re older than 50, that’s the version of the Bible that you heard in church and learned in catechism class.
